A hospital is an institution for healthcare providing patient treatment by specialized staff and equipment, and often, but not always providing for longer-term patient stays
Some patients go to a hospital just for diagnosis, treatment, or therapy and then leave ('outpatients') without staying overnight; while others are 'admitted' and stay overnight or for several days or weeks. ('inpatients'). Hospitals usually are distinguished from other types of medical facilities by their ability to admit and care for inpatients whilst the others often are described as clinics.
Hospitals vary widely in the services they offer and therefore, in the departments they have. At Lakewood Health system we have acute services such as an inpatient care, outpatient care, swing beds, transitional care, respite care along with a Level III trauma center, surgery, radiology, laboratory, pharmacy, rehabilitation service, Inpatient and Outpatient Psychiatric care, Intensive Care, Obstetrics, Cancer care newborn care along with on site specialists to provide care for our patients.
Our support units on the non-medical side include medical records departments, release of information departments, Patient Financial Services, Facilities Management, Maintenance, Nutrition and Dining Services, and Security departments.
Our facility design was to create an environment with YOU the patient in mind. Built in 2006, our state-of-the-art main campus facility takes the patient's psychological needs into account, such as providing more fresh air, better views, quiet spaces and more pleasant color schemes.
We value the relationship we have with you and recognize that you are entrusting us with your healthcare. We take that responsibility very seriously and desire to work with you to make your visit with us the best it can be. Our staff is committed to your service.
