General Surgery

General surgery can be performed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by our surgical team - on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. General surgeries available include:

  • Appendix removal
  • Gallbladder removal
  • Thyroid removal
  • Diagnostic Laparoscopy
  • Colon Resection
  • Splenectomy
  • Hernia Repair

Many of these surgeries can be performed laparoscopically. Other laparoscopic procedures commonly performed at Lakewood include cholecystectomies (removal of the gallbladder), appendectomies (removal of the appendix), and repair of inguinal hernias.

Our general surgery also treats diseases of the:

  • Adrenal Glands
  • Biliary Tract
  • Breast
  • Esophagus
  • Gastrointestinal System
  • Liver
  • Spleen
  • Stomach

Lakewood Health System uses the latest technology in our procedures, including a fully digital, high definition video transmitting system for laparoscopic procedures. This system transmits video from a laparoscope that is inserted into the body during surgery onto a 26” HD monitor.

Surgery is the oldest form of treatment for cancer. It also has an important role in diagnosing and staging (finding the extent) of cancer. Advances in surgical techniques have allowed surgeons to successfully operate on a growing number of patients. Today, less invasive operations are often done to remove tumors while preserving as much normal function as possible.

With our state-of-the-art operating rooms, our skilled surgical team and our advanced technology, you’re sure to get extraordinary surgical care. You’re in good hands at Lakewood Health System. In addition to your surgeon, Lakewood provides skilled and experienced medical staff to assist you in preparation for surgery, recovery and living.
