HOSPICE
Lakewood Health System Hospice is a special
kind of care for dying people, their families, and their caregivers.
Hospice focuses on physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
It takes place in the client’s home or in a home-like
setting. It concentrates on quality of life, not length of
life. It includes family and friends in the decision making
process. And, it concentrates on helping clients manage pain
and other symptoms caused by terminal illness.
The care provided includes:
- Pain relief through medication.
- Comfort measures such as
back rubs.
- Assistance with bathing.
- Coordination of necessary medical
equipment.
- Running errands.
- Preparing
meals.
- Listening, caring and just
being there.
Visits by hospice staff may be covered by
Medicare, Medicaid, some insurances or Veterans Administration.
Other sources of funding are provided by
foundations given from personal contributions, memorial gifts and fund-raising.
