At Lakewood Health System we offer a collaborative
approach to diabetes management. Your health
care provider, registered nurse and dietitian will be available to assist you
in creating a unique plan to fit
your lifestyle.
The diabetes self-management education program
at the Diabetes Resource Center of Lakewood Health System has
been awarded Recognition from the American Diabetes Association
as meeting national standards for diabetes self-management education.
The Nuts and Bolts of Diabetes
This class series is offered twice a month for
those newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes or those needing updated
information. You will receive practical tools and information
on blood glucose monitoring, eating healthy, physical activity,
medications and more.
Refresher classes
Staying motivated through updated classes can help you
keep level blood sugars. We offer various refresher classes on
topics such as heart health, stress, physical activity, and nutrition.
Medical Nutrition Therapy
Our registered dietitian will help you build a plan
for healthy eating that is right for you.
Insulin therapy
If your blood sugar control is in need of fine tuning
or a major overhaul, insulin may be part of your tool box. We
can help you make a smooth transition to insulin therapy.
Diabetes and pregnancy
A healthy baby is a desire of all expectant parents
and can be achieved with closely monitored care. We offer preconception
counseling and education for those with diabetes as well as those
with gestational diabetes.
Diabetes connection
We invite you to join our mailing list. “Diabetes
Connection,” a bi-monthly newsletter, connects you with
diabetes information as well as upcoming community events.
