December 18, 2012 — With the generosity, support and caring of community members, businesses and Lakewood Health System staff, $312,594 was raised during Lakewood Foundation’s ‘Capital Campaign’ to revitalize the Lakewood Care Center.
The goal of the Capital Campaign was to enhance the lives of residents by revitalizing various elements and features of the Care Center. Renovations have been underway since this fall, and the whole project is expected to be completed January 11, 2013.
Hallways and resident rooms and lounges received new flooring, paint and décor. Other areas receiving remodels are the resident activities room, dining room and beauty shop. A private Hospice room for residents and their families and a call light system has also been added.
The residents having been enjoying their new rooms, and look forward to using the renovated communal rooms as well. “My room is beautiful,” said Care Center resident Marge Pearson. “We are all excited about the new spa and we’re very happy the big nurses’ desk is out of here!”
“The community of Staples has a tradition of supporting projects that make a difference in the quality of life for those who live in the community,” said President and CEO, Tim Rice. “We are grateful for all of the donations and contributions to help support upgrading our Care Center to enhance the lives of our residents. It really means a lot to them that you care so much.”
An open house is being planned for March, 2012. Community members can take a tour of the finished renovations and see what their generous donations and support helped accomplish.
