Lakewood Health System’s new in-house MRI suite is now available.
An MRI provides a safe and painless exam of the body’s organs and soft tissues such as joints, tendons and ligaments. Commonly used for sports injuries, it also is used to find problems such as tumors, bleeding, injury, blood vessel diseases, or infection. For certain patients, MRI is also a safe and valuable test for imaging women’s breasts, as it may show problems in the breast that cannot be seen on a mammogram, ultrasound or CT scan. Using a powerful magnetic field and a computer, an MRI unit scans and produces computerized pictures of specific areas of the body, without using radiation.
Lakewood Health System’s new MRI unit is larger than most conventional systems on the market, offering a large 70-centimeter opening, accommodating patients up to 440 lbs., and featuring an ultra-short system designed to provide a wide field-of-vision which helps patients avoid the feeling of claustrophobia. Imaging services are available at Lakewood Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
