Dr. Lenz has also served in the United States Navy as an active duty surgeon in Jacksonville, Florida. For a year, Dr. Lenz was a ship surgeon on the USS Saratoga.

Dr. Lenz provides surgical services one week per month at Lakewood Health System. He is a board certified general surgeon. His medical service has been concentrated in the Duluth, MN area where he has not only practiced as a general surgeon, but taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota - Duluth for third and fourth year medical students. He has earned prestigious awards, such as the Alpha Omega Alpha Volunteer Teacher of the year and Lake Superior Medical Society Teacher of the Year in 2008.
