Family Updates

We know many people are concerned and wondering about the spread of COVID-19 and how that impacts Lakewood Health System; in particular, our care center and residents.

To keep the families and friends of our residents up-to-date on our residents’ activities, we will be adding weekly family updates to this page. Please check back often! (Click on Documents to the right to view our weekly Chronicles.)

We are also working to find other methods for communicating with your loved ones. If you’d like to set up a virtual face-to-face visit with your loved ones, click to email.

August 24, 2021: Due to a positive COVID-19 test at our care center, we are limiting visitation until further notice, per the Minnesota Department of Health guidelines. At this time, we are only allowing compassionate care and essential caregiver visits. To schedule, please call 218-894-8345. We apologize for the inconvenience and will do our best to update this information here and on our Facebook page as soon as we’re able to resume regular visitation.

April 1, 2021: Effective immediately, care center visitation can resume for residents when specific criteria are met. Please keep in mind this can change based on facility outbreaks and county case rates.

  • All visits MUST be scheduled by calling 218-894-8341 during the week and on weekends call 218-894-8345 or 218-894-8347.
  • Ongoing essential and compassionate care visits should continue to call 218-894-8345.

March 22, 2021: Due to a positive case of COVID-19 at the care center, we will have to temporarily suspend indoor visitation until we have a full round of negative results. We apologize for this inconvenience and will let you know when visits resume.

March 19, 2021: Effective immediately, care center visitation can resume for residents when specific criteria are met. Please keep in mind this can change based on facility outbreaks and county case rates. All visits MUST be scheduled by calling 218-894-8341 or emailing melindafox@lakewoodhealthsystem.com

  • Ongoing essential and compassionate care visits should continue to call 218-894-8345.
  • All visitors will enter via Door B to be screened and are expected to wear necessary PPE.
  • No eating or drinking is allowed during indoor visitation.
  • Visits will take place in resident/tenant rooms only if it is a private room. Other visits will be scheduled in the Activities room.
  • Up to three visitors are allowed in the Activities room, and two visitors in private rooms, as space allows for distancing. Requests for additional visits will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • These visits will not be supervised.
  • Visitors must go directly to the room in which their visit is taking place; visiting with residents and staff and walking around the halls is not allowed.

We look forward seeing you again!

February 17, 2021: Due to a positive case of COVID-19 in our care center, we will be suspending in-person visits for care center residents per the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. We hope to resume visits again in two weeks if we have no more positive cases. Please remember essential care/compassionate care visits are available for those who meet the criteria as determined by our care center staff. We also have virtual visit options available.

February 12, 2021: The COVID-19 prevalence rates in both our care center and the county have decreased to the point where we can once again offer indoor visits for residents and their loved ones. To help keep our residents safe, please do not visit if you are ill, have a recent known COVID-19 exposure, or cannot comply with our masking and social distancing regulations. ALL visits must be scheduled ahead to ensure we have openings and space available. Visits will begin on Monday, February 15. If you have questions or would like to schedule a visit, please call our Activities department at 218-894-8341.

October 21, 2020: Effective immediately, Lakewood Care Center, Lakewood Pines and Lakewood Manor are suspending indoor visitation per guidance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). This guidance comes from increasing COVID-19 positivity rates in Wadena and Todd counties, with CMS data showing Todd county as over the 10% threshold. We will continue to offer virtual visits, compassionate care visits, and essential care visits, per regulation.

October 19, 2020: Starting today, Lakewood Care Center outdoor visits will be moved inside. All other visit criteria remains the same, including the need to pre-schedule the visits. Call our Activities department at 218-894-8340 to schedule.

October 13, 2020: New guidance from the MDH has come out regarding long-term care visits. Lakewood Care Center is working to align our visitor policy with this guidance. Please continue to check our website for details. To read the updated guidance, click here.

July 15, 2020: The Minnesota Dept of Health (MDH) recently released guidance that allows facilities the option to implement a program to allow Essential Caregivers (EC) to come into the facility to visit and/or care for residents. This may include family, friends, volunteers, or other community contacts. There are multiple requirements that need to be followed in order to ensure safety and oversight of these visits. Lakewood Health System Care Center and Senior Housing are working on a possible implementation plan, using guidance from MDH and Care Providers of MN. We anticipate more information will be released from our facility next week. Thank you for your patience as we work through this new guidance!
