Carissa Arens, certified nurse practitioner (CNP), joins Lakewood Health System’s family medicine team.
Arens grew up in Grantsburg, WI and completed her undergraduate studies at Excelsior University in Albany, NY and received her masters of science in nursing from the University of Cincinnati in OH. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Thera Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
As a family medicine provider, Arens is a huge fan of health literacy and is excited to teach people about how their bodies work (and how the body and mind work together), so they can better understand how to care for themselves. Whether caring for patients in the clinic or emergency settings, Arens enjoys taking time to tailor her care to what each person needs to maintain or improve their health.
“Lakewood’s focus on community seems special,” said Arens. “I look forward to being part of an organization that helps not only individuals, but also families and our community, and helping care for people over the span of their lifetime.”
Arens is very close to her four grown children and values their time together caring for their family home and little patch of land and forest. They spend a lot of time learning and stretching their minds in pursuit of several interests, including music, self-care, and social justice. Arens also loves home improvement and construction projects, and still figure skates and runs.
