Lakewood Health System Pledges Commitment for Healthier Communities

Lakewood Health System announces a formal commitment to support the Staples-Motley Independent School District and its efforts to develop long-range facility plans. Lakewood strongly believes the plan being proposed for the April 2021 referendum will contribute to a healthier community for school-aged children and for everyone.

Lakewood’s mission is to provide quality, personalized healthcare for a lifetime. This dedication goes far beyond hospital and clinic walls – it reaches the communities it serves. And the commitment from healthcare to improve the health and well-being of communities is stronger than ever. “We know health impacts everyone, not just for the patients and residents who come to Lakewood for care. The conditions where we live, learn, work and play can have a profound effect on our health, and through the endorsement of projects and programs, we know we can help create vibrant communities in our region,” said Lisa Bjerga, Lakewood’s Chief Financial Officer.

Local school districts play a critical role in providing healthy and safe places for students to learn. Through strong partnerships, the collective work of local school districts alongside the support from local cities, county, and township leaders is essential to shape the health and well-being of students and communities in the region. These contributions and dedicated investments will ensure the 1,000 students enrolled at Staples-Motley Independent School District can thrive in the classroom and in life.

Lakewood is excited to pledge its ongoing commitment with the Staples-Motley Independent School District – and with many local city, county, and township leaders – to make investments and create healthier communities. “Education and good health over a lifetime are closely linked,” says Bjerga. “We look forward to working with the Staples-Motley Independent School District during its design phase to ensure community health is an important outcome of the plan. Investments that improve educational outcomes, health and overall wellbeing are a win-win-win for us all.
