Lakewood Health System Pledges Investments for a Healthier Community

Lakewood Health System has announced a formal collaborative commitment with the Staples-Motley Independent School District on its upcoming activities and wellness facilities addition. Lakewood strongly believes this collaboration to enhance Phase One of the school’s improvement plan will contribute to a healthier community for all and a pooling of resources will result in smart, collective, and impactful investments.

The mission of Lakewood Health System is to provide quality, personalized healthcare for a lifetime. This dedication goes far beyond hospital and clinic walls – it reaches the communities we serve through our vision to empower health and well-being together. The commitment from healthcare to improve the health and well-being of communities is stronger than ever. “We know 80% of a person’s health is linked to factors that occur outside of our clinic walls,” said Lakewood’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Christine Albrecht. “Lakewood Health System takes pride in providing exceptional patient care; this pledge continues to extend our exceptional care beyond our clinic walls”.

A healthier population drives down the total cost of healthcare and improves health outcomes. “Community facility investments are responsible investments, ensuring our patients have the opportunity to be healthy where they live, work, learn and play, said Lisa Bjerga, Lakewood’s Chief Financial Officer. “As a tax-exempt hospital, we have an IRS requirement to financially invest in our communities via community benefit. Enhancing community facilities, within this collaborative partnership model, directly aligns with our community benefit responsibility and enhances wellbeing across our community.”

Lakewood Health System, and its Board of Directors, are excited to pledge this commitment to the Staples-Motley Independent School District. As anchor institutions, we have a shared responsibility to lead and collaborate on addressing education, health and community needs,” said Lakewood’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Tim Rice. “We look forward to working with the Staples-Motley Independent School District during this facility enhancement opportunity. Investments that improve educational outcomes, health and overall well-being are a win-win-win for us all.
