Dr. Sheilaine Mabanta is New Radiation Oncologist at Lakewood Health System

Oct. 3, 2025: Lakewood Health System welcomes Dr. Sheilaine Mabanta, radiation oncologist, to its oncology team. 

Originally from Meridian, Miss., Dr. Mabanta completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Notre Dame and obtained her medical degree from Tulane School of Medicine. She completed her residency at Shands Hospital – University of Florida. Dr. Mabanta is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology.

As a radiation oncologist, Dr. Mabanta specializes in using radiation therapy to treat cancer. She will work with oncology patients to develop personalized treatment plans, determine the type and dose of radiation needed, and oversee their treatment from start to finish to destroy cancer cells while minimizing harm to healthy tissue. Dr. Mabanta completes the Lakewood oncology team which includes Drs. Nathan Dewey, Emily McGovern, Wade Swenson, and Aquino Williams, and nurse practitioners, Mariah Nieman and Jessica Nybakken. “I am excited to join Lakewood, which has a stellar reputation in the area, to provide advanced cancer care close to home for patients who might otherwise have to travel long distances for quality treatment.”

Dr. Mabanta and her husband, John, have two daughters, Bella and Ava, both of whom were Division I gymnasts. In her free time, Dr. Mabanta enjoys walking and hiking, cooking, and is an aspiring golfer.
