No Surprise Billing Act

Starting January 1, 2022, through new rules aimed to protect consumers, excessive out-of-pocket costs will be restricted, and emergency services must continue to be covered without any prior authorization, and regardless of whether or not a provider or facility is in-network.

To learn more about the No Surprise Billing act, visit the CMS website.

Standard Charges

To improve price transparency, U.S. hospitals are required to publish lists of standard charges, known as chargemasters, to help patients compare prices. These listed charges are not typically what patients pay, as they do not reflect insurance discounts, self-pay reductions, financial assistance, or variations in individual treatment. Hospitals may bundle or itemize services differently, so charges for the same service can vary in what they include.
