Laparoscopic Surgeries

Many surgeries at Lakewood can be performed using minimally invasive techniques. Depending on the procedure and your surgical team, this may include traditional laparoscopic surgery or robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci 5 system.

Common minimally invasive procedures include cholecystectomies (removal of the gallbladder), appendectomies (removal of the appendix), and repair of inguinal hernias.

Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Lakewood now offers robotic-assisted surgery with the da Vinci 5 surgical system, giving patients access to advanced minimally invasive surgical technology close to home. For certain procedures, the system allows specially trained surgeons to operate through small incisions while seeing the surgical area in detailed 3D.

The technology gives surgeons precise control of specialized instruments and provides additional feedback during delicate procedures. While the system provides advanced tools and technology, your surgeon remains in control at all times. The da Vinci 5 does not perform surgery on its own.

Robotic-assisted surgery can be used for a variety of procedures, but it may not be the best option for everyone. Your surgical team will consider your health, the procedure you need and other factors to help determine the surgical approach that's right for you.
